Elton John Vs Dolce&Gabbana

In the latest news, Elton John has declared #BoycottDolceGabbana

It all started when Domenico Dolce was interviewed by an Italian magazine Panorama, in which he was referring to the “traditional family” that he grew up in, in response to their latest fashion show that celebrated motherhood.

“You are born to a mother and a father. Or at least that’s how it should be … I call children of chemistry ‘synthetic children.’ Rented wombs, semen chosen from a catalogue … psychiatrists are not ready to confront the effects of this experimentation.”

Elton John directly fired back at them in an Instagram post:

In a comment on the post, Stefano Gabbana responded to John’s remarks, calling the singer a “fascist” and using the hashtag #boycotteltonjohn”.

Responded Gabbana in a statement, “It was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love,” while Dolce added, “I’m Sicilian and I grew up in a traditional family made up of a mother, a father and children. I am very well aware of the fact that there are other types of families and they are as legitimate as the one I’ve known. But in my personal experience, family had a different configuration. That is the place where I learned the values of love and family. This is the reality in which I grew up, but it does not imply that I don’t understand different ones. I was talking about my personal view, without judging other people’s choices and decisions.”

Alongside, he posted various pictures on Instagram that showed a funny side of the situation and others where he re-emphasized his point of view.

Now, Beckham and a host of other celebrities have condemned the fashion house using John’s original hashtag. “Sending love to Elton David Zachary Elijah & all the beautiful IVF babies,” Beckham wrote.

Singer Courtney Love said she had gathered up all her Dolce & Gabbana items and wanted to burn them. “I’m just beyond words and emotions,” she said, before asking her followers to “boycott senseless bigotry”.

Screenwriter Ryan Murphy, of Nip/Tuck, Glee and American Horror Story fame, said: “These designers’ horrifying views are never in fashion. Their clothes are as ugly as their hate.”

Recently, Dolce and Gabbana posted on Instagram that they received a letter of support from children of gays and lesbians that had their backs on his opinion. The letter was signed by six individuals who were raised by gay or lesbian parents.

“We want to praise your courage and thank you for your inspiration. We also implore you not to surrender when the backlash grows in intensity. If you back down from what you said and apologize, it will leave the children of gay homes even more vulnerable and discredited. It is important for our sake, for the sake of Italian children as well, that you not apologize or capitulate. Please support the idea that all children need to be bonded with their mothers and fathers. It is a human right.”

Funny enough, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are both gay and were previously a couple. People are taking the opinion too personally. We are all entitled to our own point of view. There is no right or wrong. There is just a matter of opinion which everybody is free to act upon without interfering with the freedom of others.

And saying that their “clothing” is ugly just because you don’t like their opinion on the matter is just childish and unnecessary .
